Public Relations (PR) and Advertising are both crucial tools in marketing and communications, but they differ significantly in purpose, execution, and perception. Here's a comparison:
🔹 Definition
 • PR (Public Relations) aka Earned Media:
 Strategic communication aimed at building and maintaining a positive public image and relationships with various stakeholders (e.g., media, LP's, customers, employees, investors).
 • Advertising:
 Paid promotion of products, services, or brands through various media channels (e.g., TV, print, digital) to persuade the audience to take a specific action.
 • Earned Media Credibility =Higher – Third-party validation (e.g., media coverage), harder to get
 • Paid Media Credibility = Lower – Seen as self-promotion
 • Earned Media Message Lifespan: Depending on the outlet, you should refresh your earned media wins every 1.5-2 years. 
 • Paid Media: Shorter – Ads (with the exception of podcast ads, stop when the budget does)
